Maria LawranceMaria’s career in real estate in Fairfield now spans two decades, and her vast experience in residential real estate has made her a very well-known person within this community.
Maria started in this office in September 1986. She had arrived in Australia in February 1986 with her two children, and was drawn into the industry as her potential income had no limits, and would be dependent on how hard she was prepared to work.
In the first year as a real estate salesperson, Maria came second in a group of eighty salespeople across Sydney. In her second year, not only did Maria win the title Salesperson of the Year, but she also won Auction Lister of the Year, which was the first time anyone had won both titles. It was also the first time that a woman had won either Award!
She was invited to buy a share of the Company in 1991, and then in 2001, Maria bought out her previous business partner completely to become the sole owner of Starr Partners, together with her husband Mick Lagudi.
Maria is also a fully qualified Auctioneer and has auctioned thousands of properties across Sydney. She says: “The art of a good auction is not only an excellent marketing campaign, but also ensuring the buyers are well-qualified and can afford the property. The exciting part of the Auction for me is the strategy, which is always worked out with the Vendors beforehand.”
Maria’ list of achievements include being one of the originating Directors of the Starr Partners group, and serving on the Board of Directors for ten years. Her knowledge and experience in Residential Sales and Property Management are second to none.
Maria is very determined to ensure that her Starr Partners Team is renowned in the area for its honesty, friendliness and excellent service. She goes to great trouble to personally train all her staff; keeping them updated with any changes in the Law or regulations; ensures that they attend external seminars to hone up their negotiating skills and to always give Clients the very best advice.
“My philosophy is quite simple” she says “In business today, love people and use money NEVER the other way round, and you will always draw good clients to you. Pay your staff, your rent and your bills first, and you will always draw good staff to you, and you will always get the best deals from your suppliers. Loyalty must be earned and deserved, never demanded. Over the years I have witnessed the rise and fall of many hotshots. They have focused on chasing the dollar rather than giving good, old fashioned service. Guess what? They are no longer around. Funny that, isn’t it?”
